Manjanggul
Manjanggul Cave, located in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, is a world-renowned lava tube cave and a part of the Geomunoreum Lava Tube System. With a total length of approximately 7.4 km, it ranks as the 12th longest lava tube globally. Despite being formed hundreds of thousands of years ago, its internal formations and topography are exceptionally well-preserved, making it highly valuable for both scientific research and its scenic beauty. Inside the cave, visitors can witness diverse lava formations, including lava stalagmites, stalactites, lava columns, and flow patterns. Notably, a lava column reaching about 7.6 meters in height is recognized as the world's largest. Currently, only about 1 km of the cave is accessible to the public, with certain sections closed for conservation purposes. Manjanggul Cave is designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and a Natural Monument of Korea. The cave maintains a stable temperature between 11-21℃ year-round, offering a cool retreat in summer and a mild environment in winter. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes due to potentially slippery and dark conditions. Please note that Manjanggul Cave is temporarily closed for facility maintenance and safety inspections until Spring 2026.
