TL;DR — 4 things to know
- A head spa is a beauty service, not a treatment. It means scalp cleansing, scaling and massage at a salon or scalp care shop. For hair loss or a scalp condition, see a dermatology clinic (피부과).
- Book in English on Creatrip or Klook. Both list head spa products for foreign visitors. Naver Map booking also works if you complete Naver's passport verification, which needs you to be in Korea.
- Prices vary a lot. Posted prices we found ran from ₩50,000 for a 30-minute scalp scaling to ₩120,000–200,000 for 60–120 minute head spa courses. Check what is included before you pay.
- Hair-loss shampoos are cosmetics. In Korea they are sold as functional cosmetics that ease hair-loss symptoms, not as medicines. Tax refund starts at ₩15,000 per receipt, and shampoo, serum and ampoules count as liquids for the cabin.

The K-Scalp Routine
Korean haircare treats the scalp as skin. Here is how the steps usually fit together.
The idea: clean the scalp properly, then care for the hair itself. Products for each step are easy to find at Olive Young.
Scalp: a scaling (deep-cleansing) shampoo or scrub, then a scalp ampoule or tonic. Some ampoules go on before shampooing and some are left on after, so follow the label.
Hair: a rinse-out treatment or hair mask after shampooing, and a hair serum or oil on damp or dry hair to tame frizz.

Head Spa, Scalp Shop or Dermatologist?
Three different things are often called “scalp care”. Pick the one that matches your goal.
Head spa (헤드스파)
Run by hair salons and head spa shops. A course usually starts with a scalp check by camera, then cleansing, scaling, massage and a long rinse. It is about relaxation and a clean scalp.
Popular with tourists
Scalp care shop (두피관리실)
Shops that focus on scalp cleansing and scaling, often with a scalp camera check. Some also sell their own scalp products after the session.
Beauty service, not medical
Dermatology clinic (피부과)
A doctor can diagnose hair loss, dandruff or scalp inflammation and prescribe medicine. Go here if you have a real hair or scalp problem.
Medical care
Free check: Olive Young N Seongsu
This Seongsu store offers free face and scalp consulting with no booking (Newsis, November 2025). Expect queues.
Free, no booking
Needles mean medicine. Some scalp shops advertise treatments with fine needles. In Korea, needle devices of 0.25 mm or longer have been treated by courts as medical devices, and authorities have referred beauty shops for unlicensed medical procedures (Health Chosun, July 2026). If a shop offers needles, ask whether a doctor performs it, or choose a clinic.
How to Book
Foreign-friendly booking options we could confirm, and what to check before you go.
- Choose a platform. Creatrip and Klook list head spa products in English. Korea JoongAng Daily (January 2026) reported Creatrip's Korean scalp care bookings up 219% and Klook's head spa traffic up 230% in 2025.
- Or use Naver Map. Many shops take bookings on Naver Map. Booking needs a Naver login plus identity verification; since 4 June 2026 Naver accepts an overseas passport, and you must be in Korea to complete it. Some shops ask for a deposit.
- Book ahead. Popular shops fill up, so do not count on walking in. Some shops do accept walk-ins, so ask if you have no booking.
- Check what is included. Course length, number of steps, whether a scalp camera check, styling or blow-dry is included, and whether staff speak English or use a translator.
- Show this if needed: “두피 케어 받고 싶어요” (I would like scalp care) and “두피가 예민해요” (My scalp is sensitive).

They cannot prevent or cure hair loss, and their packaging carries a notice that they are not medicines. For real hair loss, ask a dermatologist.
When to buy: Olive Young holds its big sale (올영세일) four times a year, in March, June, September and December. Not every store stocks every product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a head spa and a scalp clinic?
A head spa is a beauty service at a salon or head spa shop: scalp check by camera, cleansing, scaling, massage and rinse. A dermatology clinic (피부과) is medical care where a doctor diagnoses and treats hair loss or scalp conditions. Treatments with needles should be done by a doctor.
How can a foreigner book a head spa in Seoul?
Creatrip and Klook list head spa products in English. Many shops also take bookings on Naver Map, which needs a Naver login and identity verification; since 4 June 2026 an overseas passport works, but you must be in Korea. Book ahead because popular shops fill up.
How much does a head spa cost in Korea?
It depends on the shop and course length. Posted prices we found ran from ₩50,000 for a 30-minute scalp scaling to ₩120,000–190,000 for 60–120 minute courses, and a reported 18-step course cost ₩200,000. Chosun Ilbo put scalp care at around ₩100,000 a session.
Do Korean hair-loss shampoos work?
In Korea they are functional cosmetics that help ease hair-loss symptoms, such as TS Shampoo's functional range. MFDS says they cannot prevent or cure hair loss and are not medicines. For real hair loss, see a dermatologist.
