💰 Bargaining & Price Negotiation
Korea is mostly fixed-price. Department stores, convenience stores, and chains: never bargain. Traditional markets: limited negotiation possible. Here's where and how.
- Acceptable: Namdaemun/Gwangjang Market for bulk purchases ("두 개 사면 깎아줘요?" = discount for two?)
- Acceptable: Dongdaemun wholesale when buying 3+ same item
- Never: Convenience stores, branded stores, department stores, restaurants
- Polite phrasing: "조금만 깎아주실 수 있어요?" (a little discount possible?)
- Cash payment sometimes gets 5–10% off at small shops: "현금으로 하면요?" (if I pay cash?)
