- Line 1 runs straight from Seoul Station to Suwon Station — about an hour, no booking. Tap a T-money card; the distance fare works out to approx. ₩2,150 each way (the exit gate shows the exact amount). From Suwon Station, city bus 11 or 13 takes you to Hwaseong Haenggung.
- The Hwaseong Fortress walls are free and open around the clock. Suwon's official tourism site lists the walls as free, every day. You pay only for Hwaseong Haenggung palace (adult ₩2,000; free if you wear hanbok) and extras such as the Hwaseong Eocha trolley (adult ₩6,000).
- Flying Suwon, the tethered balloon, costs ₩24,000 (adult) but plans to close from November 2026 to the end of January 2027. The operator says the break is for a helium balloon replacement and the dates may shift. When it runs, weekend and holiday tickets are sold on site only, first come, first served.
Getting There on Subway Line 1
No transfer and no reservation — just check the train's destination.
Board ① Line 1 at Seoul Station, City Hall or Jongno 3-ga and ride to Suwon Station (수원역). Line 1 splits at Guro, so take a train bound for Suwon, Byeongjeom, Seodongtan, Cheonan or Sinchang — not one bound for Incheon. Local trains take about an hour from Seoul Station; express (급행) trains are a few minutes faster (approx.). The fare is approx. ₩2,150 with a transit card: ₩1,550 for the first 10 km plus ₩100 per extra 5 km; the exit gate shows the exact fare.
Suwon Cultural Foundation lists city buses 11 and 13 from the Suwon Station Novotel stop (Exit 4) to the Hwaseong Haenggung · Suwon Seongji stop, then about a 5-minute walk. Buses 60 and 7-2 leave from the AK Plaza stop (Exit 7). Naver Map or KakaoMap shows live arrival times.
Hwaseong Fortress (수원화성)
Built from 1794 to 1796 under King Jeongjo and listed by UNESCO in 1997. The walls run about 5.7 km (5,744 m) and are free to walk at any hour.
Flying Suwon Balloon (플라잉수원)
A tethered helium balloon by the fortress near Changnyongmun, the east gate. The name is Flying Suwon — search '플라잉수원' on Naver Map.
The balloon rises 100–150 m depending on the weather, and a flight lasts around 10–13 minutes (the operator gives both figures on different pages). Usually about 15 people board, up to 30, with a trained pilot on board. Strong wind stops flights, sometimes without notice, and anyone who has been drinking cannot board.

Refunds: Unused tickets can be cancelled before boarding; once used, no refund.
Uiwang Rail Bike (의왕 레일바이크)
Three stops north of Suwon on Line 1: a 4.3 km pedal loop around Wangsong Lake. Solo travellers, note: the operator says at least two people must pedal together.
Take ① Line 1 north from Suwon Station three stops to Uiwang Station (의왕역). The rail park (209 Wangsongmotdong-ro) is roughly 1.3 km away — about 15–20 minutes on foot (approx., visitor reports) — or take a local bus from the station. The operator asks riders to arrive 30 minutes before departure.
Weekdays: 2-seat ₩28,000 · 4-seat ₩36,000 · departures 09:30–17:00, roughly hourly
Weekends: 2-seat ₩35,000 · 4-seat ₩45,000 (09:30 departure ₩30,000 / ₩40,000) · last departure 18:00
